Bolleby of Sweden takes over pole position at H H Emir Cup 2023 Bowling Championship

Doha: Kim Bolleby of Sweden, the 2012 champion, has taken the lead in the qualifying standings of the H H  Emir Cup 2023 at Qatar International Bowling Center on Tuesday.

Bolleby, who had scores of 703 and 740 in his two attempts yesterday, improved his performance with two additional attempts, posting scores of 707 and 727. This brought his total score for the 9 games to 2174, securing him the top spot. Mostafa Al-Mousawai of Kuwait, who was leading yesterday with 2098, settled for second place despite improving his total to 2141.

Ivan Tse of Hong Kong, China, also improved his total from 2082 to 2121, maintaining his position in third place. Meanwhile, Eric Tseng, who celebrated his 33rd birthday today, moved up to fourth position with a score of 2084.

Ali Al Rashi of UAE, a two-hander, dropped down to fifth place with a score of 2083. Timmy Tan of Malaysia, who only managed a score of 663 in his latest attempt, still secured a place in the top bracket, finishing in sixth position with a score of 2082. This pushed Yousef Al-Jabir of Qatar into seventh position with a score of 2074.

Muhammad Abdullah and Khaled Al Dubbyan, both from Kuwait, dropped out of the top bracket and now share eighth position with a score of 2054. Jassim Al-Muraikhi of Qatar rounded out the top 10 with a score of 2053. The cut-off for the Step 1 finals, in 26th position, went to Mohamed Jamal of Qatar with a score of 1939.

The top 6 qualifiers, positioned 1 to 6, will earn a bye and automatically advance to the Step 2 finals. Qualifiers positioned 7 to 26, along with the top 2 Qatari youth, the top 2 qualifiers from the first two days of qualifying, and the top 2 from the one-game desperado squad, will make the cut for the Step 1 finals.

In the Step 1 finals, the finalists will bowl 8 games, and the top 10 with the highest scores will advance to the Step 2 finals. They will be joined by the top 6 seeded qualifiers from the general standings for another 8 games.

The next step will consist of the top 5 players with the highest scores in Step 2 finals. In Step 3, players positioned 3, 4, and 5 will compete in a single game. The winner of this game will then move on to face the second seed from Step 2 in Step 4.

The winner of Step 4 will then have the opportunity to compete against the top seed from Step 2 in the title match during Step 5. Ultimately, the champion will be determined by the winner of Step 5.
