Barcelona’s LaLiga game against Osasuna was unexpectedly postponed 20 minutes before kickoff on Saturday following the sudden passing of the club’s first-team doctor, Carles Miñarro García.
Miñarro García, who joined Barcelona in 2017, had been working with the first team since last summer.
The club announced the postponement of the match in a statement, expressing their deep sadness and condolences to Miñarro García’s family and friends.
The Barcelona players were informed of Miñarro García’s passing upon arrival at the Olympic Stadium and unanimously agreed to request the postponement of the match, which was granted by LaLiga.
Players took to social media to pay tribute to Miñarro García, with midfielder Gavi posting, “Always in our hearts, Doc. We will miss you a lot.” Pedri wrote, “I still can’t believe it. Sending a huge hug to all of Carles’ family and friends.”
The match will be rescheduled for a later date. Barcelona currently leads LaLiga, one point clear of Atlético Madrid and three ahead of Real Madrid.
