Alcaraz, Rune set for Barcelona open final showdown

Carlos Alcaraz, the Spanish world number two, has reached the Barcelona Open final for the third time in four years after a dominant 6-2, 6-4 win over France’s Arthur Fils.

Alcaraz will face Denmark’s Holger Rune, who secured his spot in the final with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Russia’s Karen Khachanov.

The win ensures Rune will return to the world’s top 10 rankings on Monday for the first time since April 2024.

Alcaraz, the reigning French Open and Wimbledon champion, expressed his excitement about reaching the final in front of his home crowd, saying, “Let’s see if tomorrow we will end the day with the trophy.”

Meanwhile, world number three Alexander Zverev reached the final of the Munich Open with a 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 win over Hungary’s Fabian Marozsan.

Zverev will face American Ben Shelton, who defeated Argentina’s Francisco Cerundolo 2-6, 7-6 (9-7), 6-4, for the title.
