Ipswich Town relegated as Newcastle beat them to go 3rd

Ipswich Town’s relegation from the Premier League was confirmed after Newcastle United secured a 3-0 win at St James’ Park.

The Tractor Boys needed a win and a West Ham loss to delay their inevitable drop to the Championship, but their hopes were dashed after Ben Johnson’s red card late in the first half.

Alexander Isak’s penalty, awarded after a pitchside review, gave Newcastle the lead in added time.

Dan Burn doubled the lead with a header 10 minutes after the restart, and Will Osula sealed the win with a header in the 80th minute.

The victory marked a successful return for Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe, who had missed the previous three games with pneumonia. The win lifts Newcastle to third in the table.

Ipswich’s defeat makes history, as all Premier League relegations have been confirmed with four games remaining for the first time.
