Ruben Amorim Insists Manchester United Remain Draw for Top Talent Despite Struggles

Manchester United target Matheus Cunha has scored 32 goals in 87 appearances for Wolves

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim maintains that the club remains an attractive destination for transfer targets, even as they languish in 14th place in the Premier League.

The Portuguese manager, who took the reins in November, says he already has a vision for what he wants the squad to look like next season.

With United on track for their worst league finish since their relegation in the 1973-74 season, a significant squad overhaul appears inevitable.

The Red Devils are reportedly eyeing Wolves forward Matheus Cunha and have been heavily linked with Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap, who has a £30 million release clause—likely to draw interest from multiple clubs.

Currently, United must win the Europa League to secure a spot in next season’s Champions League. Failure to do so could see them miss out on European football for only the second time since English clubs were readmitted to continental competitions in 1990 following the Heysel ban.

Despite the mounting challenges, Amorim remains confident in the club’s appeal.

“It’s Manchester United,” he said. “Every player wants to play for Manchester United.

“Right now, with all the issues—including a coaching change—it might seem like a difficult situation. But we have a clear plan, and that’s easy to communicate to players.”

Amorim declined to confirm the club’s interest in Cunha, who has a £62.5 million release clause and is believed to be open to a move to Old Trafford.

He also pointed to Casemiro as an example of how perceptions within the squad can evolve. The 33-year-old Brazil international, who has a year left on his contract, recently expressed a desire to remain at the club.

As for next season, Amorim suggested that preparations are already underway.

“It’s a conversation for the end of the season, and things can change,” he said. “But we want to act early—we have a clear idea.”
