Everton closing in on deal for Villarreal striker Thierno Barry

Everton are nearing an agreement with Villarreal to sign French Under-21 striker Thierno Barry, as the club looks to reinforce its attacking options ahead of the new season.

The 22-year-old, who has a £34.5 million release clause in his contract with the Spanish side, is reportedly eager to make the switch to Merseyside.

Barry enjoyed an impressive 2024–25 campaign, scoring 11 goals and registering four assists in 38 appearances. His contributions helped Villarreal secure a fifth-place finish in La Liga and a return to the Champions League.

If the move goes through, Barry would effectively replace Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who departed Everton this week following the expiry of his contract. Fellow forward Armando Broja also left the club, returning to Chelsea after the conclusion of his loan spell.

Born in Lyon, Barry began his career at French side Sochaux before making a bold move at 19 to Belgian second-division club Beveren. After a standout season, he earned a transfer to Swiss outfit Basel, where his continued progress led to a £13 million move to Villarreal in August 2024.

His potential arrival would mark a significant statement of intent from Everton as they look to reshape their forward line.
