Raya’s new deal follows back-to-back Golden Gloves as Arsenal move to secure key stars

Arsenal have handed goalkeeper David Raya an improved contract, reflecting his growing importance under manager Mikel Arteta.

The Spain international has agreed to a pay rise on the deal he signed when making his move to the Emirates permanent in the summer of 2024.

BBC Sport understands the agreement was reached earlier this summer but has yet to be formally announced by the club. Raya, who previously earned around £100,000 per week, will now receive an increased salary, though the length of his contract remains unchanged.

The 29-year-old’s deal runs until 2028, with an option for a further extension.

It follows a similar arrangement made with Leandro Trossard, who also agreed improved terms earlier this summer without extending his contract, which is due to expire in 2027.

Like Raya’s, Trossard’s new deal has not been officially confirmed by Arsenal.

Raya won the Premier League’s Golden Glove award in the 2023/24 season and successfully defended the title last term, sharing the honour with Nottingham Forest’s Mats Sels.

As BBC Sport reported last week, Arsenal have opened negotiations with Jurrien Timber over a new long-term contract, while the club remain optimistic that Bukayo Saka will commit to fresh terms, with talks said to be at an advanced stage.

The Gunners have already secured key defensive reinforcements for the future, with France international William Saliba signing a new five-year deal earlier this year and centre-back partner Gabriel Magalhães extending his contract until 2029 in June.
