Liverpool storm Into Quarterfinals as Salah hits historic milestone in dominant Anfield night

Liverpool produced a powerful Champions League performance at Anfield, overturning their first-leg deficit against Galatasaray with a commanding 4-0 victory that sealed a 4-1 aggregate win and a place in the quarterfinals.

But beyond the scoreline, this was a night defined by persistence, pressure, and a moment of history from Mohamed Salah.

Liverpool came into the second leg trailing 1-0 from the first meeting in Istanbul, where an early goal had left them with work to do. From the opening whistle at Anfield, however, it was clear the hosts were determined to respond.

They started aggressively, dominating possession and pinning Galatasaray deep inside their own half. Wave after wave of attacks followed, with Liverpool creating chances early but struggling to find the breakthrough.

Salah, in particular, looked determined from the outset. The Egyptian forward was heavily involved in Liverpool’s attacking play, constantly drifting into dangerous positions, linking up with midfield runners, and testing the Galatasaray defense.

Yet for all his involvement, the goal would not come immediately.

One of the key moments of frustration arrived late in the first half when Salah saw an effort denied by goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakır. Even more painfully, he also missed a penalty opportunity, as his attempt was saved, an indication that despite Liverpool’s dominance, the breakthrough was proving elusive.

Still, Liverpool kept pushing.

Their persistence finally paid off in the 25th minute when Dominik Szoboszlai opened the scoring, finishing off a well-worked move to level the tie-on aggregate.

That goal shifted the momentum completely. The Anfield crowd came alive, and Liverpool began to play with greater confidence and intensity.

In the second half, the game exploded into life.

Just six minutes after the restart, Hugo Ekitike gave Liverpool the lead in the tie, finishing from close range after excellent build-up play involving Salah and the midfield.

Before Galatasaray could recover, Liverpool struck again almost immediately.

Salah, still searching for his goal, unleashed a shot that was parried by Cakır, only for Ryan Gravenberch to react quickest and turn in the rebound to make it 3-0 on the night.

At that point, Liverpool were in full control. The tie had flipped completely, and Galatasaray had no answer to the relentless pressure.

But the biggest moment of the night was still to come.

After constant attempts, near-misses, and relentless involvement, Salah finally got his reward in the 62nd minute—and it was worth the wait.

Cutting inside with trademark precision, he curled a brilliant effort beyond the goalkeeper to make it 4-0, capping off a dominant performance and sending Anfield into celebration.

It was more than just a goal.

It was Salah’s 50th Champions League goal, a landmark moment that underlined his legacy as one of the competition’s greatest forwards.

The celebration carried a sense of relief as much as joy. After missing earlier chances, including the penalty, Salah had continued to push, continued to demand the ball, and ultimately delivered when it mattered.

Shortly after scoring, he was substituted, bringing an end to a performance that perfectly captured his influence, persistent, dangerous, and ultimately decisive.

From there, Liverpool managed the game professionally.

Galatasaray, who had defended resolutely in the first half, were overwhelmed by Liverpool’s second-half intensity. They struggled to create chances and were limited to minimal attacking opportunities, finishing with just a single shot on target compared to Liverpool’s dominance.

Liverpool, by contrast, were relentless registering over 30 attempts and completely controlling possession throughout the match.

The midfield trio dictated the tempo, the full-backs stretched play, and the front line continuously pressed and created openings.

Tactically, it was a complete performance.

Liverpool balanced urgency with control, knowing when to accelerate and when to manage the game. Their pressing forced mistakes, their movement created space, and their finishing in the second half proved clinical.

For Galatasaray, the night quickly slipped away after holding firm early on. Their inability to cope with Liverpool’s tempo and intensity ultimately cost them, as the tie turned decisively in the space of just minutes after halftime.

For Liverpool, however, this was a statement performance.

Overturning a first-leg deficit in such convincing fashion highlights both their quality and mentality. It also reinforces their credentials as serious contenders as the competition moves into the quarter-final stage.

And at the heart of it all was Mohamed Salah.

A player who refused to fade after missed chances, who kept pushing, kept believing, and ultimately delivered a moment of history on a night that Anfield will remember.

Because sometimes, it’s not just about scoring.

It’s about how many times you try before you finally do.
