Australia women and New Zealand men claim FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup 2026 crowns

Singapore: Australia’s women and New Zealand’s men delivered dominant performances to be crowned champions of the FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup 2026, concluding a thrilling final day of competition in Singapore on Sunday.

The Australian women maintained their regional supremacy, securing the title for the sixth time with an unbeaten campaign. Their path to glory included a tense semi-final against China, where they staged a dramatic comeback to prevail 21-20, thanks to clutch plays by Amy Atwell. In the final, Australia asserted full control over a resilient Philippines side, winning comfortably 18-9 to extend their dynasty in the fast-paced 3×3 format.

Meanwhile, New Zealand’s men produced an impressive upset by dethroning the defending champions Australia in the semi-finals. Te Tuhi Lewis caught fire from beyond the arc, powering the Kiwis to a 21-16 victory. Buoyed by that momentum, New Zealand carried their disciplined offence and sharp shooting into the final, overcoming Republic of Korea 21-15 to claim the men’s crown.

The tournament also witnessed notable historic breakthroughs for several teams. The Philippines women reached their first-ever FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup final, led by the experienced duo of Afril Bernardino and Kacey Dela Rosa. Displaying remarkable resilience and rapid development, they earned a landmark silver medal,  their first podium finish in the competition’s history.

Republic of Korea’s men similarly made their mark, advancing to their maiden final despite facing significant challenges, including competing in the semi-finals with a reduced rotation. Their silver medal run represents a major milestone for the Korean programme and signals growing strength in Asian 3×3 basketball.

China concluded a solid campaign by securing bronze medals in both the men’s and women’s events, underlining their consistency throughout the week-long tournament held at the Kallang venue.

The FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup 2026 showcased the rising popularity and competitiveness of the format across the continent, with high-intensity matches, skilful plays and passionate crowds. Australia’s women continue to set the benchmark in the region, while New Zealand’s men have re-emerged as a formidable force by toppling the former title holders.

Organisers and officials praised the high standard of competition and the sporting spirit displayed by all participating nations. The event also provided valuable preparation opportunities for teams eyeing future international 3×3 commitments, including potential qualification pathways for major global events.

With these results, the 2026 edition will be remembered for both established powers reaffirming their dominance and emerging nations making significant strides on the continental stage.
