Real Madrid and Girona head into the break level at 0-0, but the story of the first half is clear — Madrid on top, Girona holding firm.
From the start, Madrid controlled the game.
With Jude Bellingham, Eduardo Camavinga and Federico Valverde dictating play, the hosts dominated possession and pushed Girona deep into their own half. Kylian Mbappé, Vinícius Júnior and Brahim Díaz constantly looked to break through, but the final touch just wasn’t there.
The numbers tell the story.
Madrid registered more shots and controlled over half of the possession, while Girona managed very little going forward in comparison.
But Girona deserve credit.
They stayed compact, disciplined, and organized — exactly what you need at the Bernabéu. Every time Madrid tried to find space in dangerous areas, Girona closed it down quickly and forced them into low-quality chances.
There were moments.
Madrid came close a few times, testing the goalkeeper and getting into promising positions, but nothing clean enough to break the deadlock. Girona’s best opportunity came late in the half, but it drifted wide — a reminder that they can still threaten.
One notable moment saw Mbappé pick up a yellow card during a heated exchange, showing the growing frustration in Madrid’s play.
At the break, it’s 0-0 — but it doesn’t feel balanced.
Madrid are clearly the better side, but Girona are doing exactly what they came to do: frustrate, stay alive, and wait for a chance.
Second half?
It’s a question of patience vs resistance.
