Lamine Yamal’s father stabbed near Barcelona

The father of 17-year-old Barcelona and Spain star Lamine Yamal has been hospitalised after being stabbed in a parking lot near Barcelona, Spanish police have confirmed to ESPN.

Officers were called at 9:10 p.m. local time on Wednesday after Yamal’s father, Mounir Nasraoui, was stabbed in the town of Mataró, which is 30 kilometers (19 miles) outside Barcelona.

Nasraoui was transferred to the Germans Trias i Pujol University Hospital in Badalona, Can Ruti, with various injuries which were not thought to be life-threatening. He posted on Instagram on Thursday to say he is feeling better and expressed gratitude for the messages of support.

Three people were arrested on Wednesday in connection with the stabbing and remain in police custody, with a fourth arrest made on Thursday. Police have not ruled out making further arrests.

Yamal participated in Barça training on Thursday ahead of their opening LaLiga fixture against Valencia on Saturday.

Nasraoui recently celebrated his son winning Euro 2024 with Spain.

Yamal was a regular starter for Spain in the tournament in Germany and scored a crucial strike against France to help his country reach the final, where they defeated England.

He set up Nico Williams‘ opening goal in the 2-1 win over England and also won the tournament’s best young player award just a day after he turned 17.
