FIA President highlights Qatar’s leading role in motorsport ahead of Qatar Grand Prix 2024

Qatar’s Prime Minister H E Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani with FIA President President Mohammed Ben Sulayem and other officials during their meeting in Doha on Wednesday.

Doha: Ahead of the Formula 1 Qatar Airways Grand Prix 2024, scheduled for next week, the President of the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), H E Mohammed Ben Sulayem, engaged in discussions with Qatar’s Prime Minister, H E Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, and the Minister of Sports and Youth, H E Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani.

The primary focus of their meeting was Qatar’s significant contribution to the global motorsport landscape, as well as the nation’s advancements in innovation and education related to mobility. The dialogue extensively covered the importance of sustainability in the region, with all parties reaffirming their shared commitment to promoting sustainable practices and enhancing awareness.

FIA President, said, “My thanks to the Prime Minister of Qatar, His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani for his generous welcome. We had a very productive meeting to discuss the future of global motor sport and mobility. It was also good to discuss a number of grassroots development initiatives across motorsport and mobility with the Minister of Youth and Sports, His Excellency Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani.”

“I am proud of the close relationship that has been built by the FIA and our regional Member Club Qatar Motor & Motorcycle Federation, and the partnership we have fostered to ensure ongoing innovation and collaboration in the region. I look forward to the upcoming events taking place in Qatar and spending more time in this vibrant country.”

The ongoing partnership between Qatar, the FIA, and the Qatar Motor & Motorcycle Federation (QMMF) is pivotal for the sustained development of motorsport and the success of the mobility and transport sectors, both regionally and internationally.

From late November to mid-December, global attention will be directed towards Qatar and the Lusail International Circuit, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary. This period will feature the penultimate race of the season, the Formula 1 Qatar Airways Grand Prix 2024, alongside the MENA Karting Championship Nations Cup, showcasing top karting talents from the Middle East and North Africa across six exciting categories.

Our focus on sustainability, innovation, and inclusivity aligns with Qatar’s vision to inspire progress and nurture talent, ensuring the region’s enduring impact on the global motorsport landscape.

The FIA is dedicated to enhancing accessibility and diversity within motorsport, ensuring that equal opportunities are available for all talented individuals, with the global grassroots program being essential for the continued success of motorsport in the Middle East.

In addition to sporting topics, the discussions also encompassed the FIA’s ongoing support for mobility and transport initiatives in the region.
