Lewandowski nets 100th Champions League goal in Barca win

Robert Lewandowski joined Barcelona from Bayern Munich in July 2022

Robert Lewandowski became the third player to score 100 Champions League goals as Barcelona overcame Brest in a dominant display.

Only Cristiano Ronaldo with 141 and Lionel Messi with 129 have scored more times than the 36-year-old in Europe’s elite competition.

Lewandowski’s 100th goal came from the penalty spot in the 10th minute after Brest goalkeeper Marco Bizot crashed into the back of the Poland striker.

Dani Olmo scored his first Champions League goal for Barcelona and gave them some breathing space after a superb first touch took him beyond Brendan Chardonnet before he slid the ball under Bizot to make it 2-0.

Lewandowski capped a stunning Barcelona display with his second of the night – and 101st in the competition – after slotting into the bottom corner with ease following a fantastic spin in the box.

The La Liga leaders dominated the ball throughout with 77% of possession as they limited the French side to no efforts on target.

Olmo had another fantastic chance in the second half to find the net but Brest captain Chardonnet superbly cleared the ball off the line.

In a rare attack, Brest found the back of the net after Mathias Pereira Lage drilled the ball beyond Inaki Pena but the flag was quickly raised for offside.

Substitute Pablo Torre should have wrapped up the three points with five minutes remaining but his poor effort was slipped wide of the post.

Barcelona have moved up to second in the league phase table after winning four of their five matches, while Brest slip to eighth.
