Man City held by Brighton despite leading twice

Manchester City’s bid to secure a Champions League spot suffered a setback on Saturday as they were held to a 3-3 draw by Brighton at the Etihad Stadium.

Erling Haaland’s 84th Premier League goal, scored from the penalty spot, was cancelled out by Pervis Estupinan’s stunning free-kick.

Omar Marmoush levelled the score again with a superb strike, but City’s defence faltered once more, allowing Abdukodir Khusanov to score an own goal.

Despite a frenzied finish, City were unable to secure a win, with Brighton’s Carlos Baleba missing a gilt-edged chance to claim victory.

The draw leaves City’s Champions League hopes in the balance, while Brighton’s point marks their first in the fixture since 1982.

“We had our chances, but we couldn’t take them,” said City manager Pep Guardiola. “We have to improve our defence and take our chances.”

Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi praised his team’s performance, saying: “We played a great game, and we deserved the point.”

The result leaves Manchester City in fourth place in the Premier League table, while Brighton remains in fifth place.
