Kenya Football Federation launches investigation into match manipulation allegations against goalkeeper Patrick Matasi

The Kenya Football Federation (FKF) has initiated an investigation into allegations of match manipulation against goalkeeper Patrick Matasi, who plays for Kenyan Premier League club Kakamega Homeboyz.

An undated video circulating online appears to show Matasi agreeing to influence the outcome of a league game. However, the video’s authenticity has not been verified.

Matasi’s club, Kakamega Homeboyz, has expressed support for the 37-year-old goalkeeper, who has won over 30 international caps for the Harambee Stars.

The club’s owner, Cleophas Shimanyula, stated that Matasi was “shocked” by the video and denied any involvement in match-fixing.

The FKF has reaffirmed its zero-tolerance policy on match manipulation and will work with Fifa, the Confederation of African Football, and other relevant authorities during the investigation.

“We are committed to safeguarding the credibility of our competitions,” the FKF said in a statement. “This investigation will adhere to FKF’s anti-match manipulation regulations and Fifa guidelines, ensuring a fair, transparent, and thorough process.”

The FKF has called on anyone with credible information to assist the investigation, with all reports being handled confidentially. Matasi’s club has also urged anyone with evidence of match-fixing to come forward.

“Kakamega Homeboyz is against any form of match manipulation,” Shimanyula said. “We have our own internal systems to detect and prevent match-fixing, and we will cooperate fully with the FKF’s investigation.”
