Brazil sacks manager Dorival Junior after humiliating loss to Argentina

The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has terminated the contract of national team manager Dorival Junior, following a dismal 4-1 defeat to arch-rivals Argentina in a World Cup qualifier.

Despite sitting fourth in the South American qualifying group, Brazil’s chances of reaching the 2026 World Cup remain strong.

However, the CBF has opted to make a change at the helm, ending Dorival’s 14-month tenure.

Dorival, 62, had a mixed record during his time in charge, winning seven, drawing six, and losing three of his 16 games.

His first match was a notable 1-0 victory over England at Wembley in March 2024.

The CBF has begun the search for Dorival’s replacement, with Brazilian media speculating that Al-Hilal coach Jorge Jesus is the leading contender.

The CBF had previously attempted to appoint Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti but was unsuccessful.
