QCA President discuss preparations for Doha’s World Championship with FIDE officials in Shanghai

Doha: President of the Qatar Chess Association (QCA), Mohammed Al Mudahka, engaged in discussions with FIDE officials in Shanghai during the Women’s World Championship. The focus of their meeting was the preparations for the World Rapid and Blitz Chess Championship, scheduled to be held in Doha from December 25 to 31, 2025.

FIDE, under the leadership of Arkady Dvorkovich, expressed strong support for Qatar’s bid.

Al Mudahka emphasized that the conversations aimed at ensuring a remarkable tournament experience, anticipating significant international participation. The 2025 championship is expected to draw elite players from around the world, building on the success of the previous event held in New York.

He also pointed out the championship’s significance for Qatar’s national team, presenting a vital opportunity to enhance their rankings and engage with international chess institutions. This will mark Qatar’s second occasion hosting the event, following the 2016 championship at the Ali Bin Hamad Al Attiyah Arena.

Additionally, Al Mudahka was present at the opening of the fourth round of the Women’s World Championship, featuring a match between Chinese grandmasters Ju Wenjun and Tan Zhongyi.
