Fury set for ring return against Hanjalic in Budapest on May 9

British cruiserweight Tommy Fury will make his long-awaited return to the boxing ring on May 9, taking on Bosnian fighter Kenan Hanjalic in Budapest.

The 25-year-old hasn’t fought since his victory over YouTuber-turned-boxer KSI (Olajide William Olatunji) 18 months ago. Following his social media announcement last week, Fury’s comeback opponent has now been confirmed as 27-year-old Hanjalic.

Since turning professional in 2019, Hanjalic has recorded four wins from five fights, suffering just one defeat.

Fury, who boasts an unbeaten 10-0 record, underwent hand surgery after his points win over KSI in Manchester — a fight not sanctioned by the British Boxing Board of Control.

“The hardest battle I’ve faced has been the mental battle of being away from boxing,” Fury said. “But I’m back stronger, sharper, and more HUNGARY than ever.”

Fury had originally been slated to fight former UFC star Darren Till in January, but withdrew after concerns over “MMA tactics” being introduced into the bout.

Currently training out of Budapest, Fury will share the May 9 card with his brother, Roman Fury, who is set to face Croatian heavyweight Josip Pehar.
