Swiatek avoids Madrid shock

Iga Swiatek avoided another upset against teenage sensation Alexandra Eala, coming from behind to win 4-6 6-4 6-2 in their Madrid Open second-round match.

The world number two had been stunned by Eala in Miami last month but showed resilience on Spanish clay.

Swiatek struggled early, committing 25 unforced errors in a poor first set.

However, she refocused and adjusted her game, ultimately overwhelming Eala with improved power and precision.

The Polish star hit 57 unforced errors but still managed to win, as Eala secured only 80 points in the match.

Swiatek attributed her initial struggles to the high altitude in Madrid, which affected her returns.

She adjusted her string tension mid-match, finding better control in the second set.

The win sets up a third-round match against Czech player Linda Noskova.

Swiatek is gearing up for the French Open, where she aims for a fifth title.
