Sevilla forced to sleep at training ground after violent fan attacks

Sevilla’s first team were forced to spend Saturday night at their training ground after being confronted by violent fan unrest following their 3-2 defeat to 10-man Celta Vigo.

In a strongly worded statement, the club condemned what it described as “organised vandalism” outside the José Ramón Cisneros Palacios training facility.

Videos shared on social media showed a large group of fans setting off pyrotechnics and tearing down the entrance gate in protest over the team’s continued struggles.

The players and coaching staff were unable to leave the premises upon returning from Vigo and remained inside the facility overnight for safety reasons.

Sevilla also expressed concern over the public release of personal information about club staff on social media and in the press, calling the acts criminal and vowing legal action.

The defeat leaves the 2020 and 2023 Europa League winners in 16th place in La Liga, just six points clear of the relegation zone with three matches remaining.

The club confirmed it will fully cooperate with authorities to identify and prosecute those responsible for the attacks and stated that if any of the perpetrators are confirmed to be Sevilla supporters, they will face the full consequences.

While Sevilla acknowledged the frustrations of fans amid a difficult season, they stressed that protests “must never involve violence, threats, or criminal damage.”

The team is without a win in eight matches and now faces a critical clash with fellow strugglers Las Palmas on Tuesday, before hosting Real Madrid and finishing the season away at Villarreal.
