Liverpool confirm €35m signing of Frimpong as talks advance for Florian Wirtz

Liverpool have officially signed Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen for €35 million (£29.5 million), with the Dutch right-back agreeing to a five-year contract.

The deal was completed just hours after Liverpool announced Trent Alexander-Arnold’s imminent move to Real Madrid. Frimpong, 24, was secured after the club activated his release clause and is widely seen as Alexander-Arnold’s successor in Arne Slot’s new-look side.

A dynamic and versatile right-footer, Frimpong was instrumental in Leverkusen’s historic 2023–24 Bundesliga title win and made 53 appearances across all competitions as the club finished second in 2024–25.

He will compete for the right-back position with Northern Ireland international Conor Bradley, who recently signed a new four-year deal with Liverpool.

Frimpong began his career in Manchester City’s youth system before moving to Celtic in 2019 and later joining Leverkusen in January 2021. At Anfield, he joins a growing Dutch contingent alongside Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo, and Ryan Gravenberch.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are also in advanced talks to sign German international Florian Wirtz from Leverkusen. The club has submitted a proposal worth around £109 million, including add-ons, for the 22-year-old forward. Wirtz is considered a top priority, and negotiations are reportedly in the final stages, with optimism growing that a deal can be struck soon.
