Chelsea close to completing £52m deal for Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens

Chelsea are on the verge of completing the signing of Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens, after the German club confirmed that a transfer agreement is in place.

The 20-year-old England Under-21 international is set to move to Stamford Bridge for an initial fee of £48.5 million, with a further £3.5 million in potential add-ons.

Both clubs are currently in the United States for the FIFA Club World Cup, and met in Fort Lauderdale to finalise terms. While Dortmund noted that contract details are still being finalised, BBC Sport previously reported that Gittens agreed to a seven-year deal with Chelsea back in June.

“The talks with Chelsea were challenging, but ultimately we’re pleased to have met our financial targets and gained planning certainty,” said Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl.

“Jamie is an outstanding player who has given us great joy. He now wants to take the next step in his career at Chelsea. We wish him all the best and much success.”

Gittens joined Dortmund from Manchester City in 2020 and has gone on to score 17 goals and provide 14 assists in 107 appearances for the Bundesliga club.

Although the transfer is nearing completion, Gittens will not be eligible to feature for Chelsea until after their Club World Cup campaign concludes.

The Blues have been busy in the summer market, having already brought in Ipswich striker Liam Delap, Brighton’s Joao Pedro, Sporting midfielder Dario Essugo, and Strasbourg defender Mamadou Sarr.

Palmeiras starlet Estevao Willian is also set to join Enzo Maresca’s squad after the Club World Cup. He could even line up against Chelsea this Saturday when the two clubs meet in the quarter-finals.
