Norris claims first home win in thrilling, rain-hit British Grand Prix

McLaren’s Lando Norris celebrated his maiden home victory in a dramatic, rain-soaked British Grand Prix marked by chaos, safety cars, and strategic gambles.

Norris inherited the lead from teammate Oscar Piastri, who was handed a 10-second penalty for erratic driving during a restart following one of two safety car interventions at Silverstone. The Australian had looked in control for much of the race, navigating a treacherous mid-race downpour and multiple incidents, but lost out when forced to serve his penalty during a late pit stop.

As he crossed the line, an emotional Norris was heard crying in his helmet, later calling the win “beautiful” in front of a roaring home crowd.

“Other than winning a world championship, I don’t think anything compares to this,” said Norris. “The last few laps I was just soaking it all in — the fans, the noise. These are memories I’ll carry with me forever.”

The result also tightens the championship battle, with Norris now just eight points behind Piastri in the standings.

In a feel-good subplot, Nico Hülkenberg secured his first-ever Formula 1 podium at the 239th attempt — the longest wait for a top-three finish in the sport’s history. The 37-year-old Sauber driver held off a late charge from Lewis Hamilton, now racing for Ferrari, to clinch third place behind the two McLarens.

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, hampered by the changing conditions, finished fifth.
