Jannik Sinner stormed into his first Wimbledon final with a commanding straight-sets victory over seven-time champion Novak Djokovic, ending the Serbian’s hopes of a record-breaking 25th Grand Slam title.
The 23-year-old Italian produced a stunning performance to win 6-3, 6-3, 6-4 and book a rematch of last month’s French Open final against defending champion Carlos Alcaraz.
Sinner’s dominant display on Centre Court marked his sixth consecutive win over Djokovic—though this was their first encounter on grass. With the win, Sinner reaches his second Grand Slam final and becomes the first Italian man to reach the Wimbledon title match in the Open Era.
“I’m incredibly proud to be in my first Wimbledon final,” Sinner said. “It’s always special to play Novak—he’s a legend—but today I played my best tennis.”
Djokovic, 38, had called this tournament likely his best opportunity to claim a record 25th major title, given his success on grass and at Wimbledon.
But the Serb, who required a medical timeout after the second set, was outplayed for much of the match and struggled to find answers to Sinner’s pace, precision, and composure.
Though Djokovic briefly threatened to mount a comeback in the third set, Sinner reeled off five straight games to snuff out the challenge and secure the biggest grass-court win of his career.
Sinner will now face world number two Carlos Alcaraz in Sunday’s final, a rematch of their epic five-set French Open clash just five weeks ago, where Sinner led by two sets before Alcaraz staged a dramatic comeback.
“Carlos is such a great player,” Sinner said. “To share the court with him again in a Slam final is an honour. Hopefully, we can produce another great match for the fans.”
Alcaraz, 21, advanced earlier on Friday with a 6-4, 5-7, 6-3, 7-6 (8-6) victory over American fifth seed Taylor Fritz, overcoming a spirited challenge on a scorching day at the All England Club.
Between them, Sinner and Alcaraz have now featured in each of the last six Grand Slam finals, cementing their rivalry as the defining one of a new tennis era.
For Sinner, Sunday represents a chance to win a second major title—and his first outside of hard courts—while Alcaraz aims to defend his Wimbledon crown and collect his fourth Grand Slam trophy.
