Bournemouth have completed the £25m signing of goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic from Chelsea, with the Serbian international agreeing a five-year contract.
The 25-year-old joined Chelsea from MLS side New England Revolution in 2023 for £14m and spent last season on loan at French outfit Strasbourg. Petrovic impressed during his time in Ligue 1, earning the club’s Player of the Season award as Strasbourg secured a Europa Conference League place with a seventh-place finish.
Though he made 23 appearances for Chelsea in the 2023–24 campaign and briefly claimed the number one spot under Mauricio Pochettino, the Blues opted to send Petrovic on loan due to concerns about his ability to play out from the back.
While his passing metrics didn’t show dramatic improvement during his time in France, Petrovic’s distribution was statistically more accurate than that of Chelsea’s current first-choice goalkeeper, Robert Sánchez. Back-up keeper Filip Jorgensen also recorded stronger passing stats than both players.
Bournemouth view Petrovic as a long-term solution between the posts, with his shot-stopping ability and improving distribution key factors in the club’s decision to bring him to the Vitality Stadium.
