De Bruyne double leads Belgium comeback win over Wales in World Cup qualifier

Kevin De Bruyne scored twice from the penalty spot as Belgium came from behind to defeat Wales 4-2 in Cardiff, moving a step closer to qualifying for the 2026 World Cup.

Joe Rodon gave Wales an early lead in the eighth minute, but De Bruyne quickly levelled from the spot before Thomas Meunier’s close-range finish turned the game around before half-time.

The Manchester City midfielder converted another penalty in the 76th minute to make it 3-1, though substitute Nathan Broadhead briefly gave Wales hope with a late strike.

Leandro Trossard restored Belgium’s two-goal cushion just a minute later to seal the win and lift Domenico Tedesco’s side to the top of Group J on 14 points, one ahead of North Macedonia, who were held 1-1 by Kazakhstan.
