Talbi’s stoppage-time strike seals Sunderland’s shock win over Chelsea

Sunderland continued their impressive Premier League return with a dramatic 2-1 victory over Chelsea on Saturday, as substitute Chemsdine Talbi curled in a stunning winner deep into stoppage time at the Stadium of Light.

Chelsea made the perfect start, taking the lead in the fourth minute when Alejandro Garnacho cut in from the left and fired through goalkeeper Robin Roefs’ legs to score his first goal for the club.

But Sunderland hit back midway through the first half, with Wilson Isidor poking home from close range after the visitors failed to deal with a long throw.

The game looked destined to finish level as Chelsea struggled to break down the home side’s organized defense.

Yet in the third minute of added time, Talbi — a summer signing from Club Brugge — latched onto a clever pass from fellow substitute Brian Brobbey and guided a precise low finish into the corner for his first Sunderland goal.

The victory lifted Sunderland to second in the table, underlining their strong start to life back in the top flight.
