Madueke scores first Arsenal goal as Gunners sweep Bayern to stay perfect in CL

Noni Madueke netted his first Arsenal goal as Mikel Arteta’s side powered past Bayern Munich 3-1 to extend their perfect Champions League record to five wins from five.

Arsenal were in control from the outset and struck first in the 22nd minute when Jurrien Timber rose to meet Bukayo Saka’s corner, nodding in the Gunners’ 10th goal from a corner this season — the highest total across Europe’s top five leagues.

Bayern responded well and levelled 10 minutes later.

Joshua Kimmich’s sweeping diagonal ball found Serge Gnabry, whose low cross was tapped in by 17-year-old Lennart Karl for his first Champions League goal, ending Arsenal’s run of clean sheets in the competition.

But the hosts reasserted themselves after the break. England winger Madueke restored the lead, steering in Riccardo Calafiori’s driven cross after the Italian came off the bench to make an instant impact.

Arsenal sealed the victory in style when north London derby match-winner Eberechi Eze lofted a clever pass over Bayern’s defence, allowing Gabriel Martinelli to round a stranded Manuel Neuer and slot into an empty net — handing the German champions their first defeat of the season.

Arteta’s side march on, perfect and full of confidence, into the final matchday of the league phase.
