Qatar’s beach volleyball duo eyes quarterfinal glory at Ostrava Elite 16

By Staff Reporter

Ostrava: Qatari beach volleyball pair Sherif Younes and Ahmed Tijan are making waves at the Volleyball World Beach Tour Elite 16 in Ostrava, Czech Republic, delivering a commanding performance that has earned them a well-deserved place in the quarterfinals.

The duo sealed their last-eight berth on Saturday with a dominant straight-sets victory over Swedish pair Holting Nilsson and Andersson, winning 2-0 (21-19, 21-18) in a fiercely contested Round of 16 clash. Throughout the match, Younes and Tijan showcased exceptional coordination, tactical sharpness, and consistent quality across all phases of play.

Their quarterfinal opponents will be Argentine brothers Nicolas and Tomas Capogrosso, who advanced after a hard-fought three-set win over Brazil’s Andre and Renato — a result that underlined their own ambitions at this prestigious event.

Qatar’s run in Ostrava has been built on solid foundations. The pair opened their campaign with a victory over Latvia, followed by another win against France in the group stage. A narrow defeat to the American duo was their only blemish — a minor setback that did little to diminish their standing among the world’s elite.

With the tournament concluding on Sunday, Younes and Tijan will be eager to convert their impressive form into a deep run, as Qatar continues to cement its reputation on the global beach volleyball stage.
