Aichi/Nagoya: Qatar added another silver medal to its tally at the Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026 yesterday after Mohammed Al Rumaihi and Ray Bassil finished runners-up in the mixed team trap event, while beach volleyball duo Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan advanced to the semi-finals.
The silver lifted Team Qatar’s medal tally to 13, comprising three gold, six silver and four bronze medals, as the country continued its campaign across several sports.
Al Rumaihi and Bassil hit 32 targets to secure second place, behind India’s Kynan Chenai and Neeru, who claimed gold with 34 targets. China’s Ying Qi and Sun Yunong took bronze with 23 targets.
“The medal was not easily won. The competition was extremely tough. However, by the grace and guidance of God, we were able to achieve this milestone,” Bassil said.

Al Rumaihi attributed the achievement to hard work and teamwork.
“This is the fourth medal for Qatari shooting at the Games, two golds and two silvers. We aspire to achieve even more medals and accomplishments in future championships and to raise Qatar’s profile high in various arenas,” he said.
Qatari shooters have emerged as the country’s most successful athletes at the Games so far, securing four medals. Nasser Saleh Al Attiyah, Rashid Saleh Al Athba and Ali Ahmed Al Ishaq won gold in the men’s team skeet, before Al Athba added individual skeet gold with a new Asian record. Al Rumaihi, Saeed Hamad Abu Sharib and Angelo Scalzone then claimed silver in the men’s team trap.
The shooting competitions conclude today, with Mohammed Nasser Al Yafei competing in the men’s 25m rapid-fire pistol event.
Cherif, Tijan eye final

In beach volleyball, Qatar 1’s Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan booked their place in the semi-finals after defeating Iran’s Abbas Pouarasgari and Alireza Aghajanighasab 21-13, 22-20.
The Qatari duo maintained their composure in a closely contested opening set before taking control in the second to complete a straight-set victory.
Cherif and Tijan, who won gold at the previous Asian Games, will face Thailand’s Paravid Taovato and Pithak Tipjan today for a place in the final.
Meanwhile, Qatar’s volleyball team will take on hosts Japan in the quarter-finals today after finishing runners-up in Pool C.
Qatar defeated Hong Kong and Vietnam before suffering a 3-2 defeat against India in their final group match.
Qatar pair reaches padel quarters

Qatar’s Rashid Nawaf and Mishari Nawaf advanced to the padel quarter-finals after defeating Kuwait’s Abdulaziz Redha and Fouad Behbehani 2-0 in the Round of 16.
The Qatari pair secured a dominant 6-1, 6-0 victory and will face UAE’s Mashari Naif and Rashed Naif today for a place in the semi-finals.
“The victory was crucial at the start of our campaign. The match was certainly not easy, but we succeeded in winning and advancing to the next round,” Rashid said.
“A tougher challenge awaits us in the quarter-finals; we must focus fully to deliver the required performance and continue our journey effectively,” he added.
Wrestlers, golfers continue campaigns
Qatar’s wrestling campaign continues on Thursday, with Shaheen Mohammed facing Tajikistan’s Alisher Rozimadov in the Greco-Roman 77kg Round of 16.
Yesterday, Aref Mohammadi defeated Thailand’s Nottapong Hinmee 9-0 in the 67kg Round of 16 before losing to Kyrgyzstan’s Razzak Beishekeev in the quarter-finals.
Qatar’s golfers, meanwhile, made a slow start at Kasugai Country Club East Course in Aichi.
Daniil Sokolov was the best-placed Qatari after the opening round of the men’s individual stroke play, carding a two-over-par 72. Saleh Al Kaabi and Ali Shahrani both finished with six-over 76s.
Taiwan’s Wei-hsuan Wang and Japan’s Kazuki Higa shared the lead on five-under-par 65.
