Doha: The Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) has announced that the third edition of its Beach Games will be held from March 10-17 at Katara Cultural Village.
At a press conference on Monday, the QOC revealed all the organizational and technical details of the tournament.
Tournament Director Rashid Adiba highlighted its goals, target groups, and organizational, administrative and technical procedures, stressing QOC’s keenness on taking community sports to new prospects and raising the level of physical and social health among members of the local community.
The organizing committee of the third edition, he said, aspires to increase the number of participants to more than 1,000 male and female players this year to compete in seven beach sports: beach soccer, beach volleyball, 3×3 basketball, boxing, karate, swimming and aquathlon. This is within the framework of QOC’s efforts to spread the culture of beach games in the Qatari society and encourage community members to preserve the environment.
Adiba added that they have increased the number of games as well as participation in this third edition due to the increasing demand from all members of society and the outstanding response from beach sports lovers and enthusiasts in the past two editions 2020 and 2022.
The tournament director revealed that the organizing committee has allocated financial prizes amounting to QR 500,000 for the winners in various games, hoping for a distinguished edition of the 2023 QOC Beach Games.
For his part, Ahmed Al Mannai, a representative of the Cultural Village Foundation (Katara), expressed his happiness at hosting the third edition of the 2023 QOC Beach Games, saying Katara has been hosting various events, including sports, and is looking forward through this partnership with the QOC to organize a distinguished version of the QOC Beach Games.
Deputy director of the tournament, Abdulaziz Ghanem, said that the tournament is within the community events and activities organized by the QOC to encourage all members of society to practice sports activities to improve their health and physical fitness, adding the QOC is keen on encouraging sports participation as a positive and healthy lifestyle in all sectors and groups of Qatari society.
