Nico Williams set Euro 2024 alight this summer with his performances on Spain’s left wing. It sparked feverant interest from Barcelona, only for the 22-year-old to reject the move.
Diario AS reports that Williams rejected the move for a couple of reasons. Mainly, they report that Williams’ family and inner cirlce suggested he remain at Athletic Club.
The Spanish news outlet said there was another reason though: Barça’s public way of dealing with the transfer.
Barça were unable to guarantee whether he would be registered to play from Day 1, given the club’s ongoing financial constraints, and repeated public comments reportedly withered Williams’ interest in joining.
Barça will be made to experience what they’re missing when they play Williams’ Athletic in LaLiga on Saturday.
