Abu Dhabi: Mohammed Al Mudhahka, President of the Qatar Chess Association (QSA), has conveyed his immense satisfaction in taking part in the International Chess Federation’s Olympic Torch Relay held in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, as part of the centenary celebrations of the International Chess Federation.
The selection of Abu Dhabi as the host for the Olympic Torch Relay aligns with its successful bid to host the World Chess Olympiad in 2028. Al Mudhahka, an International Grandmaster, stated that he engaged in an exhibition match alongside International Master Ahmed Adly, the African and Arab champion, competing against 15 players simultaneously.
In his capacity as the Executive Director of International Relations at the International Chess Federation, Al Mudhahka noted that 12 cities, including Abu Dhabi, were designated to commemorate the International Federation’s 100th anniversary. He elaborated that the Olympic Torch Relay in Abu Dhabi will precede its journey to Hungary next month, coinciding with the commencement of the 2024 Chess Olympiad, which is set to take place in Budapest from September 10 to 23.
In conclusion, Al Mudhahka emphasized the significance of participating in the Abu Dhabi Festival and the positive outcomes achieved by Qatari chess. He expressed his delight at the enthusiasm displayed by participants in the 30th edition of this festival.
It is important to mention that the Qatar Chess Association will wrap up its involvement in the 30th Abu Dhabi International Chess Festival today, which features over 2,200 male and female players from 82 countries.
The Qatari delegation consists of 15 male and female players competing in various tournaments, including the Masters Tournament, Open Tournament A, Open Tournament B, Junior Tournament under 16 years old, and the Blitz Chess Tournament.
