Al Mohannadi re-elected Asian Table Tennis Federation president by acclamation

DOHA: The Asian Table Tennis Federation has re-elected Khalil bin Ahmed Al Mohannadi to the presidency by acclamation for a second consecutive term, a position he will hold until 2028.

The nomination period for the elections concluded on August 23, with no candidates emerging to challenge Al Mohannadi for the presidency. This ensured his continuation in the role, which he first assumed on October 3, 2021, during the General Assembly meeting of the Continental Federation held in Doha, Qatar, alongside the Asian Men’s and Women’s Championship competitions at Lusail Hall.

Al Mohannadi is notable for being the first Arab and Qatari individual to hold the presidency of the Asian Table Tennis Federation since its inception in 1972, making him the sixth president in the federation’s history.

For five decades, the presidency of the Asian Federation had been predominantly held by representatives from the eastern countries of the continent, a trend that Al Mohannadi has successfully challenged and changed.

The General Assembly of the Asian Federation is scheduled to take place on October 12 in Kazakhstan, coinciding with the Asian Table Tennis Championship, which runs from October 7 to 13.

During this assembly, Al-Mohannadi will be officially announced as the president for the upcoming four-year term. Additionally, the assembly will involve the election of Vice Presidents and Regional Vice Presidents, as well as voting on the members of the Board of Directors and various committees.

The Asian Table Tennis Federation comprises 44 member federations.

Al-Mohannadi’s re-election as president for a consecutive term in one of the largest continental federations globally underscores the confidence the table tennis community has in his leadership. His extensive experience spans over two decades, beginning with his appointment as Vice President in 2001, followed by a second term in that role from 2009 to 2021, before he assumed the presidency in 2021.

In addition to his role as President of the Asian Federation, Al-Mohannadi holds several significant positions at local, continental, and international levels. He serves as the President of both the Qatari and Arab Federations, is the First Vice President of the International Federation, and is a member of the Board of Directors of the World Table Tennis Foundation, established several years ago.

The current leadership of the Asian Federation includes Al-Mohannadi as President, with Vice Presidents Kim Tak-Su from South Korea, Xu Xin from China, Nabil Al-Faqih, Secretary General of the Yemeni Federation, and Omani Treasurer Mr. Sajjad Baqer Al-Lawati.
