Assembly renews confidence in Al Zaraa’s leadership
AMMAN: The General Assembly of the West Asian Table Tennis Federation (WATTF) has reaffirmed its trust in Thani Al Zaraa, a member of the Board of Directors of the Qatar Table Tennis Federation, by appointing him to the newly formed Board of Directors of the West Asian Federation for the upcoming four-year term. Additionally, Ahmed Khalil Al Mohannadi has been designated as the Secretary General of the West Asian Federation for the same duration.
This decision was made during the General Assembly meeting of the West Asian Table Tennis Federation, which took place in Amman, the capital of Jordan, coinciding with the West Asian Championship for the sport. This development underscores the confidence in Qatari professionals and further solidifies the significant representation of Qatari table tennis in international, Asian, Arab, and West Asian federations, thereby enhancing the prominence and leadership of Qatari table tennis on all fronts.
Furthermore, Tariq Al Zoubi, the President of the Jordanian Table Tennis Federation, has retained his role as President of the West Asian Federation for the forthcoming term. Abbas Wahid, the President of the Iraqi Federation, has been elected as the First Vice President, while Falhan Al-Otaibi from Kuwait and George Kobli from Lebanon have secured the positions of Vice President. The Board also includes members such as Thani Al Zaraa, Abdulrahman Al-Menhali from the UAE, Radwan Al Sharif from Palestine, Issam Al-Sinini from Yemen, Shubr Al-Awami from Saudi Arabia, and Bassam Khalil from Syria.

Thani Al-Zeraa, a member of the Board of Directors of the Qatar Table Tennis Federation and a newly elected member of the West Asian Federation, stated, “We have successfully regained the trust of the General Assembly members of the West Asian Federation, which reflects their confidence in the administrative capabilities of the State of Qatar. We aspire for the upcoming phase to represent a significant advancement in the region, particularly in terms of hosting major tournaments and organizing training programs that align with the progress made by the Asian Federation under the leadership of Khalil bin Ahmed Al-Mohannadi.”
Al-Zeraa further remarked, “We will collaborate with other members to make a significant impact during this new term, aiming to enhance the popularity of the sport and foster the development of more champions who can excel on the podiums, both in the State of Qatar and throughout the West Asia region. Engaging within this regional framework will facilitate the continuation of the achievements and successes we have attained thus far.”

Ahmed Khalil Al Mohannadi articulated his pride in the trust bestowed upon him by the members of the General Assembly, as he was appointed Secretary-General of the West Asian Federation for the term spanning from 2024 to 2028. He emphasized that the involvement of Qatari professionals within this regional sports organization significantly bolsters the esteemed status of Qatari table tennis on both continental and international platforms. He stated, “In the future, we will strive to further advance the sport of table tennis among the nations affiliated with the West Asian Federation, and we extend our best wishes for success to all members of the Board of Directors in the forthcoming electoral cycle, aiming to formulate strategic plans that will fulfill aspirations and enhance the achievements of the sport at the regional level.” Al-Mohannadi also highlighted the impressive outcomes attained by the Al-Adham champions at the conclusion of their participation in the West Asian Championship, noting that these accomplishments will serve as motivation for securing additional titles in future international competitions.
