Qatar Basketball Cup kicks off on Saturday

Doha: The 2024-2025 Qatar Basketball Cup, the 12th edition of the tournament, will commence on Saturday in Doha.  This year’s competition will adopt a knockout format and feature nine Qatari clubs.

The tournament, which will run from October 19 to 31, promises a series of thrilling matches. The opening game will see Al Khor face off against Al Ahli at 5 PM, followed by a match between Al Gharafa and Qatar SC at 7 PM.

The preliminary round will conclude on Sunday with two additional matches: Al Rayyan will compete against Al Arabi at 5 PM, and Al Sadd will take on Al Wakrah at 7 PM, both at Al Gharafa Hall.

In the tournament draw, Al Shamal have been granted a bye from the preliminary round and will await the winner of the Al Khor versus Al Ahli match, which is scheduled for next Wednesday at 5 PM in the Union Hall. This match will determine which team advances to the semi-finals.

Saadoun Sabah Al Kuwari, Secretary General of the Qatar Basketball Federation, expressed his enthusiasm for the tournament’s commencement, stating, “The Qatar Basketball Cup has become a significant event in the local sports calendar, providing clubs with a platform to showcase their preparedness and compete for the championship. This year, we are witnessing robust participation, and we anticipate that the competitions will meet our expectations.”

The semi-final matches are set for October 26 at Al Gharafa Hall, with the two victorious teams advancing to the final, which will take place on October 31 at 6:30 PM.
