Saka makes history with 50th Premier League goal

Bukayo Saka entered Arsenal’s history books when he scored against Liverpool.

The winger was a shock starter after recovering from injury to start Sunday’s top-of-the-table encounter, and he took only nine minutes to get on the scoresheet, bringing down Ben White’s long pass, dribbling past Andrew Robertson and smashing into the back of the net.

In scoring, he became the youngest Arsenal player in Premier League history to reach a half-century of goals, aged 23 years and 52 days.

Player Age scored 50th goal

Bukayo Saka 23 years, 52 days

Thierry Henry 24 years, 128 days

Theo Walcott 26 years, 69 days

Robin van Persie 27 years, 162 days

Alexis Sanchez 28 years, 145 days

Saka has surpassed club legend Thierry Henry, who was more than a year older – at 24 years and 128 days – when he struck his 50th Premier League goal in December 2001.

Seventh-fastest of all-time

Only six players in history have scored 50 Premier League goals at a younger age than Saka.

Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler holds the record. He was 20 years and 252 days old when he reached the landmark with a double against Manchester United in 1996. He went on to score 163 times in the Premier League.

How Saka scored his 50 goals

We have analysed Saka’s first 50 Premier League goals to see how he scored them.

He used his left foot for the vast majority, 37, while 11 have come from his right foot and two have been headers. Only 10 of his goals have come from penalties.

This latest feat continues Saka’s incredible form this season. He leads the division’s assists chart, with seven, and has created more chances than any other player.
