Doha: Al Sadd Sports Club secured the top position in the first round of the 3×3 Junior Basketball League for the 2024-2025 season, following a series of thrilling competitions featuring nine Qatari clubs divided into three groups.
The tournament showcased remarkable performances from the junior athletes, who demonstrated exceptional skills and enthusiasm throughout the matches. The teams were organized as follows: Group A consisted of Al Gharafa, Al Wakra, and Qatar SC; Group B included Al Sadd, Al Khor, and Al Ahli; while Group Three comprised Al Rayyan, Al Shamal, and Al Arabi.
The outcomes of the group stage were notable: Al-Gharafa triumphed over Al Wakra with a score of 15-6, Al Sadd emerged victorious against Al Khor with a score of 16-4, and Al-Rayyan defeated Al-Shamal 13-9. Additionally, Qatar Club claimed victory over Al-Wakra (11-6), Al-Ahli bested Al-Khor (10-8), and Al-Shamal overcame Al-Arabi (19-11).
Qatar Club managed to defeat Al-Gharafa (16-14), while Al-Sadd excelled against Al Ahli (14-6). Al-Rayyan concluded the group stage with a significant win over Al-Arabi (21-4).
In the semi-finals, Al Gharafa won against Qatar SC (9-6), and Al Sadd triumphed over Al-Rayyan (13-10), thus advancing to the final match.
In the contest for third and fourth place, Al-Rayyan defeated Qatar SC decisively with a score of 20-7.
As for the final match, Al Sadd was able to decide the match in its favor by defeating Al Gharafa (17-11), to win the title of the first round of the tournament.
This tournament is regarded as a significant milestone in the advancement of young players’ abilities and the refinement of their skills. It offers them a platform to compete and gain experience in a prestigious competitive environment, thereby playing a vital role in the future development of basketball in Qatar.
Captain Yassin Ismail, the Director of the 3×3 Committee at the Qatar Basketball Federation, expressed pride in the performance levels demonstrated by all teams during the initial round of the 3×3 Junior League. He noted that the tournament plays a crucial role in enhancing the skills of young athletes and fostering their sportsmanship.
“The participation of various clubs in this event is indicative of the growth of 3×3 basketball in Qatar. We are committed to supporting this group of players and providing them with optimal opportunities to showcase their talents both locally and internationally,” he said.
Captain Yassin Ismail also congratulated Al Sadd Club for securing first place in this round and extended his best wishes for continued success to all teams in the forthcoming rounds. He reaffirmed that the Qatar Basketball Federation will persist in organizing such tournaments that elevate the standard of the game and promote sustainable development for basketball in Qatar.
