Doha: The Al Wakrah basketball team took part in the FIBA 3×3 World Tour Shenzhen 2024, which was held in Shenzhen, China, on November 16 and 17, 2024.
During this highly competitive tournament, the Al Wakrah team competed in the qualifying stage (B) against several formidable international teams. Their first game was against the Lithuanian team “Roundenvaris Hoptrans,” resulting in a 6-21 loss for Al Wakrah.
Subsequently, the team faced the Swiss team “Lausanne” in their second game, where they were defeated 13-22, leading to their exit from the tournament at the group stage. This participation follows Al Wakrah’s earlier involvement in the World Tour 3×3 held in the Kingdom of Bahrain at the beginning of November, marking their second consecutive year in this event.
The team delivered a commendable performance, competing against international teams and thereby continuing to strengthen their presence in global tournaments.
The Serbian team “Op Huishan NE” achieved a remarkable victory in the tournament, securing the fifth World Tour win of the year by defeating the French team “Paris” 20-12 in the final.
At the conclusion of the Shenzhen Tour, the final standings were as follows: the Serbian team “Op Huishan NE” claimed first place, while the French team “Paris” secured second. The Dutch team “Amsterdam” finished in third place, and the Lithuanian team “Roundenvaris Hoptrans” took fourth. The German team “St. Pauli” finished fifth, with Al Wakrah placing 16th.
The Al Wakrah team is coached by Egyptian coach Ihab Galal and includes players Mohamed Qandil, Mubarak Jama, Seydou Ismail Diallo, and Soli Ndour. This participation represents a significant step in enhancing the Al Wakrah team’s performance on the international stage, given the intense competition they encounter from global teams. The FIBA 3×3 World Tour Finals 2024 are set to be held in Hong Kong from November 23 to 25.
