Al Ahli defeat Al Rayyan, Al Arabi overcome Al Sadd in Basketball League

Doha: Al Ahli and Al Arabi secured two significant victories against Al Rayyan and Al Sadd, respectively, during the twelfth round of the 2024-2025 season of the Qatar Basketball League on Saturday. Both matches were characterized by intense excitement and a high level of competitive performance from all teams involved.

In the first encounter, held at Al-Gharafa Hall, Al Ahli achieved a noteworthy victory over the league leaders, Al Rayyan, with a final score of 84-78 after an extension into overtime. The game was closely contested throughout its four quarters, beginning with a 17-17 tie in the first quarter.

Al Ahli then took the lead in the second quarter, outscoring Al Rayyan 22-15. However, Al Rayyan mounted a strong comeback in the third quarter, winning it 23-16. The fourth quarter saw both teams score 19 points each, resulting in a tie that necessitated overtime.

In the overtime, Al Ahli outperformed Al Rayyan, securing a 10-4 advantage to clinch the victory. This win elevated Al Ahli’s total to 20 points, placing them third in the standings, while Al Rayyan maintained their lead with 22 points despite the defeat.

Al Ahli demonstrated remarkable resilience, particularly in critical moments, which ultimately provided them with the edge in overtime, although Al Rayyan also delivered a commendable performance.

In the second game, Al Arabi triumphed over Al Sadd 93-83 in a thrilling contest that showcased the exceptional skills of Al Arabi’s players. The scoring breakdown for the four quarters was as follows: 27-20, 26-17, 20-24, and 20-22, all favouring Al Arabi. With this victory, Al Arabi increased their total to 17 points from 10 games, securing fourth place in the standings, while Al Sadd remained in second place with 20 points.
