Qatar Basketball Federation celebrates National Sports Day 2025

Doha: The Qatar Basketball Federation (QBF) participated in the National Sports Day 2025 activities, which took place at Al-Adam Village in Al-Saad Square, Lusail yesterday.

The event was graced by the presence of the QOC President H E Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, alongside QOC Secretary-General H E Jassim bin Rashid Al Buainain.

This initiative was part of a collaborative effort between the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) and several national sports federations, aligning with the National Sports Day celebrated annually in Qatar on the second Tuesday of February. The day aims to encourage physical activity and foster community engagement in sports.

The event featured a wide array of sports activities designed for various age groups.

A highlight of the day was the Federation’s involvement in the Amiri Diwan event at Qatar Sports Club, where sports competitions were held, engaging all community members.

Additionally, the Federation hosted a closing festival for girls at the Federation Hall in Al-Gharafa, which attracted numerous teams participating in competitions designed to promote sports among young women.

In Aspire Park, the Federation organized special events for 3×3 basketball competitions, featuring the participation of the Qatari national basketball team along with all relevant technical and administrative bodies, which lent a professional atmosphere to the event. Al Maha Island also served as the venue for the final of the 3×3 basketball championship, where the top Qatari teams competed, thereby enhancing community awareness and encouraging participation in this sport.

QBF President Mohammed bin Saad Al Mughaiseeb attended the events and commended the significant success achieved in motivating the community to engage actively in sports. He emphasized that this year’s Sports Day presented an excellent opportunity to foster a sports culture in Qatar and inspire individuals to embrace an active lifestyle, highlighting the importance of the Federation’s initiatives to address societal needs and elevate sports awareness.

Additionally, the Federation introduced a slogan for the Sports Day events, “Let’s Play, Let’s Move,” which underscores the significance of encouraging widespread participation in sports and maintaining physical activity, ultimately contributing to improved public health and well-being within Qatari society. This community involvement is particularly timely as the Qatar Basketball Federation prepares to host the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup, marking the first occasion for this event in the Middle East and North Africa region, thereby underscoring Qatar’s dedication to enhancing its presence on the international sports stage.
