Draper solves Brooksby puzzle to reach fourth round

Jack Draper staged an impressive comeback to defeat Jenson Brooksby 7-5, 6-4 in the Indian Wells third round.

Despite a slow start, where he trailed 4-1 in the first set, Draper found his rhythm to overcome the American.

Brooksby, currently ranked 937, is working his way back from a 13-month ban and a shoulder injury.

Draper’s victory was sealed with an ace, wrapping up the first set, and he maintained the pressure in the second, breaking early and serving out the win in one hour and 42 minutes.

The 13th-seeded Briton will face either former champion Taylor Fritz or Chile’s Alejandro Tabilo in the next round.

Notably, Draper’s only two losses this year came against Carlos Alcaraz in the Australian Open fourth round and Andrey Rublev in the Qatar Open final. His adaptability against Brooksby’s unorthodox playing style was key to his success.

After the match, Draper showed his respect for Brooksby, writing “good to have a great player back” on the camera lens.
