Bayern Munich’s lead at the top of the Bundesliga was cut to eight points after they were held to a 1-1 draw at Union Berlin.
Leroy Sane’s 75th-minute strike appeared to have secured all three points for Bayern, but Benedict Hollerbach equalized eight minutes later to earn a point for Union Berlin.
The draw means Bayer Leverkusen can close the gap with Bayern to six points if they beat Stuttgart on Sunday evening.
Bayern took the lead through Sane’s finish after Josip Stanisic’s cutback, but Union Berlin’s young goalkeeper Jonas Urbig’s error allowed Hollerbach to volley home the equalizer.
The point moves Union Berlin seven points clear of the Bundesliga relegation play-off spot, while Bayern Munich’s lead at the top is cut to eight points.
“We’re disappointed with the result, but we have to keep working,” said Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel. “We had chances to win the game, but we couldn’t take them.”
Union Berlin manager Urs Fischer added: “We’re happy with the point, but we could have won the game. We showed great spirit and determination.”
