Novak Djokovic has advanced to the last 16 of the Miami Open with a 6-1, 7-6 (7-1) victory over a determined Camilo Ugo Carabelli.
The fourth-seeded Serb appeared to be cruising towards an easy win after dominating the first set in just 34 minutes and securing an early break in the second.
However, Ugo Carabelli, a lucky loser, responded impressively by breaking back immediately and pushing the set to a tie-break.
Djokovic, a 24-time Grand Slam champion, displayed his trademark composure, comfortably winning the tie-break 7-1 to secure the win.
With this victory, Djokovic now holds 411 ATP Masters 1000 wins, surpassing Rafael Nadal to claim the top spot on the all-time leaderboard.
The 37-year-old, aiming for his seventh Miami Open title, will face Lorenzo Musetti in the last 16 after the Italian defeated Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime 4-6, 6-2, 6-3.
In other matches, ninth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece suffered a 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 loss to American 24th seed Sebastian Korda, while Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov edged out Russia’s Karen Khachanov 6-7 (7-3), 6-4, 7-5.
