Doué fires PSG to 4th Straight Ligue 1 title with 6 games to spare
Teenage winger Désiré Doué struck the decisive goal as Paris Saint-Germain clinched a fourth consecutive Ligue 1 title with a narrow 1-0 victory over Angers at the Parc des Princes.
Luis Enrique’s side only needed a point to mathematically secure the championship ahead of second-placed Monaco, but Doué’s 55th-minute volley from a Khvicha Kvaratskhelia cross sealed all three points—and the title—in style.
The 19-year-old, who was born in Angers and joined PSG from Rennes last summer, has now tallied 11 goals and 11 assists in an outstanding debut season.
This is just the third time in Ligue 1 history a team has sealed the title with six or more games remaining. PSG, under Laurent Blanc, clinched it with eight games left in 2016, while Lyon did the same in 2007.
PSG could’ve been ahead earlier, but Gonçalo Ramos mistimed a header from an Achraf Hakimi cross, and Angers keeper Yahia Fofana produced a stunning save to deny Vitinha. Doué finally broke the deadlock after the break with a clinical first-time finish.
The victory marks PSG’s 13th Ligue 1 title overall—and their 11th in the last 13 seasons.
Marquinhos: “It’s in Our DNA to Win”
“It’s crazy, I’m very happy,” said PSG captain Marquinhos to beIN Sports. “The titles remain in history. We always aim to win everything. When we don’t win the French championship, it hurts—I’ve felt that pain twice.
“The team deserves this. It’s in our DNA to fight for every match, no matter the opponent. It’s great to see the fans happy.”
Unbeaten Run, Quadruple Ambitions
Luis Enrique’s side remains unbeaten through 28 league matches, inching closer to Nantes’ record of 32 games without defeat to start a season (set in 1994-95).
If they avoid defeat in their final six games, PSG would join an elite group of just seven clubs across Europe’s top five leagues to complete an unbeaten league season—alongside Bayer Leverkusen (2024), Juventus (2012), Arsenal (2004), AC Milan (1992), Perugia (1979), and Preston North End (1889).
Despite high-profile departures in recent seasons—Lionel Messi, Neymar, and Kylian Mbappé among them—PSG’s smarter transfer strategy has paid dividends. The additions of Doué, Willian Pacho, João Neves, and former Napoli star Kvaratskhelia have reinvigorated the squad.
Their continental ambitions are still alive too: PSG faces Aston Villa in the Champions League quarter-finals after a dramatic win over Liverpool. They’ll also play Reims in the Coupe de France final at the end of May.
Having already won the French Supercup in January, PSG are now chasing an unprecedented quadruple.
Dembele’s Impact
France international Ousmane Dembélé, who came on as a substitute against Angers, has been on fire this season—netting 32 goals in 40 appearances across all competitions.
PSG hosts Aston Villa in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final this Wednesday at 20:00 BST.
