Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka has revealed that his enforced break due to a hamstring injury was beneficial for his mental well-being.
The 23-year-old was sidelined for 101 days but has since returned to the pitch, scoring in Arsenal’s win against Fulham last week and playing 45 minutes against Everton at the weekend.
Saka, who will start against Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-final, said the break allowed him to recharge and focus on his recovery. “I think mentally it was really good for me,” he said.
“Obviously, it was really tough for me initially to find out the extent of my injury and that I was going to have surgery, but once it was done and successful, I was just focused on coming back stronger.”
The England international also addressed speculation about his future at Arsenal, saying he is committed to the club and focused on winning. “I want to win and I want to win wearing this badge, so I think it’s pretty clear,” he said.
“The fans know how much I love them, and you saw on Tuesday, I think they loved me back, so it’s a good relationship, and I’m really happy to be here.”
