Marc Marquez survives first-lap incident to claim victory at Qatar MotoGP

Lusail: The 2025 MotoGP Qatar Airways Grand Prix of Qatar wrapped up with an exciting day of racing at the Lusail International Circuit (LIC), attracting a total of 50,321 spectators over the three-day event.

The main Grand Prix on Sunday showcased top-tier motorcycle racing illuminated by Lusail’s famous floodlights, culminating in a spectacular fireworks display.

As night descended upon the circuit, attendees enjoyed an opening ceremony that featured paratroopers from the Qatar Air Sports Committee making a stunning descent onto the main straight, followed by an exhilarating freestyle bike stunt performance that energized the audience. The ceremony also included a rendition of the Qatari national anthem, with the Grand Prix trophy prominently displayed for the enthusiastic crowd.

The day’s highlight was the premier class MotoGP Grand Prix. Over 21 thrilling laps, Marc Marquez of the Ducati Lenovo Team exhibited remarkable prowess, securing victory with a total time of 41:29.186, finishing 1.800 seconds ahead of Maverick Viñales from Red Bull KTM Tech3, who took second place. Completing the podium was Marc’s teammate, Francesco Bagnaia, who finished 4.535 seconds behind.

Under the iconic Lusail floodlights and accompanied by a stunning fireworks display, Marc Marquez received the trophy for the 2025 MotoGP Qatar Airways Grand Prix of Qatar, marking his third win in four races this season, having achieved second place in one event and first in the other three.

The day began with the final race of the Idemitsu Asia Talent Cup, where Japanese riders continued their dominance from the previous day. Ryota Ogiwara from Idemitsu ATC – Japan secured victory with a time of 26’15.105, followed closely by his teammate Seiryu Ikegami just 0.204 seconds behind. Shingo Iidaka, also from Idemitsu ATC – Japan, completed the podium with a time of 26’29.512.

The Moto3 race captivated fans with thrilling action as competitors vied for supremacy over 16 laps. Angel Piqueras from FRINSA – MT Helmets – MSI claimed victory with a total time of 33’17.268. In a remarkably tight finish, Taiyo Furusato from Honda Team Asia took second place, finishing just 0.009 seconds behind, while Ryusei Yamanaka from FRINSA – MT Helmets – MSI rounded out the podium, trailing the leader by a mere 0.042 seconds.

In the Moto2 category, the race unfolded over 18 laps of fierce rivalry. Aron Canet from Fantic Motor emerged triumphant with a total time of 35:30.185. Deniz Oncu from Red Bull KTM Ajo secured the second position, finishing 1.103 seconds behind, while pole-sitter Manuel Gonzalez from Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact GP completed the podium, 1.286 seconds off the lead despite starting from the front.

The paddock buzzed with excitement as the Hero Walk allowed fans to engage with their favorite MotoGP™ riders. Spectators had the chance to take photos, obtain autographs, and enjoy personal interactions with the athletes. The Fan Zone was vibrant on the final day, offering a variety of entertainment options, including simulator experiences, go-karting, illusion shows, and live music performances.

As the 2025 MotoGP World Championship progresses, teams and riders will begin preparations for the next round, building on the momentum and insights gained from this thrilling opening event in Qatar.
