Man City strike twice late on to beat Everton

Manchester City strengthened their Champions League hopes with a hard-fought win at Everton, courtesy of two late goals.

The match appeared headed for a dull draw until young full-back Nico O’Reilly scored his first Premier League goal, converting Matheus Nunes’ cutback six minutes from time.

Substitute Mateo Kovacic sealed the victory with a stretch in injury time, sending City to fourth in the table, four points clear of sixth-placed Chelsea.

The first half was lackluster, with Everton’s best chance coming from centre-back James Tarkowski, who headed against the post from James Garner’s corner.

City could have taken the lead at halftime when Kevin de Bruyne’s goalbound strike was cleared off the line by Jake O’Brien’s acrobatic header.

Savinho also had a shot saved by Jordan Pickford in the second half.

The win keeps City on track for a potential Champions League spot, with their next challenge coming up against a tough opponent.
