The Qatar Football Association has confirmed the appointment of Julen Lopetegui as the new head coach of the national team.
The Spaniard, who was previously in charge of Real Madrid, takes over from Luis Garcia.
Lopetegui, who has been a free agent, officially signed the contract on Thursday, May 1st, after Qatar’s negotiations with Christophe Galtier fell through.
According to the association’s statement, Lopetegui has agreed to a contract that will keep him with the team until 2027.
His primary goal will be to lead Qatar’s efforts to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
