Al-Ahli to face Al-Shamal, Al-Gharafa against Al-Wakrah in Amir Cup Basketball Championship

Doha: Qatari basketball fans today, May 12, 2025 will focus their attention on the Al-Gharafa Sports Hall, which is set to host the crucial matches of the ’round robin’ stage that will qualify teams for the semi-finals of the 2024-2025 Amir Cup Basketball Championship.

These games will decide which two teams will join Al-Arabi and Al-Rayyan in the semi-finals.

The event will commence with a compelling game between Al-Ahli and Al-Shamal at 5pm, followed by a highly anticipated clash between Al-Gharafa and Al-Wakrah at 7pm.

The matchups are eagerly awaited due to the teams’ similar performances and their shared goal of pursuing the prestigious title.

Al Arabi, the reigning champions, have secured direct entry into the semi-finals after finishing first in Group A with 7 points, tied with Al Ahli, who placed second based on head-to-head results.

Al Gharafa secured third place with 6 points, ensuring their advancement to the knockout stage.

Conversely, Al Sadd (fourth with 6 points) and Qatar SC (fifth with 4 points) were eliminated from the tournament.

In Group B, Al Rayyan demonstrated dominance, leading the standings with 6 points to claim the top position in the final four. Al Wakrah followed in second place with 5 points, Al Shamal in third with 4 points, while Al Khor was eliminated after finishing fourth with 3 points.

According to the tournament rules, the top two teams from each group will advance directly to the semi-finals, while the second- and third-placed teams from each group will compete in knockout matches to determine the two teams that will progress to the semi-finals.
